Scootpad homework

Mr. Digate has downloaded a program for math and literacy practice that is tied to the common core standards.  It isScootPad.  All children know and are practicing their facts.  Ask your child to show you their Scoot Pad work.  This can be an additional homework resource that you have access to at home.

El maestro Digate ha bajado un programa para practicar las matemáticas y lectura y está relacionado a los estándares de segundo grado.  Se llama ScootPad.  Todos los niños saben la contraseña y su nombre de usuario y están practicando sus sumas y restas.  Pídanle a su hijo/a que les enseñen su trabajo de ScootPad.  Puede ser un recurso adicional de la tarea que Uds.  pueden hacer en casa.

Now is the time for Spring-cleaning!  Please return any of the following:

o   Library books

o   Classroom stories

o   Bookroom books- has a sticker with a number or letter on the back

o   Book bags (we will continue using them, but we have lost some)

Also, remember that you and your child have access to the Benchmark Universe books online. These books are leveled from C to S.  A C level corresponds to levels 1-5.  An S corresponds to levels 27 and above.  Although the levels don’t correspond identically to the Rigby assessment we use, a typical second grade level of 22 on our assessment corresponds to L and M.  It is a good idea to read and listen to all the levels of books as this increases vocabulary development.

GLAD model classroom

I am excited to announce that the Bilingual Lions are chosen to be a model classroom for Guided Language Acquisition Design strategies. This is a new district initiative of language teaching. We are saving quality work samples to share with other teachers.

Working hard for our authors party

Here we are working hard for our authors party. Save the date- it's March 22.

We work really hard in Social Studies.

Yesterday we made a story based on images. The story was about how people in Colorado made a bunch of canals to be able to plant and grow food in the desert.

Ayer creamos una historia basada en imágenes. Trataba de como la gente en Colorado construyó canales para poder plantar y sembrar en el desierto.

March 22nd Authors' Party

Please come on March 22nd at 2:00 to have an authors' party.  We will be showcasing some of our keynote presentations and a description piece that we have worked very hard on.  We will also have classroom books available for purchase (all funds will go to sustain iPad usage).  We hope to see you there!

DLI City-Wide Parent Summit

WHO: Parent, teacher and community leaders interested in dual language
immersion education in Madison Metro School District.

WHY: Identify successes and challenges. Build a coalition among the DLI -MMSD
community to advocate for and support DLI programs.

WHY NOW: Dual language immersion education has been in MMSD since 2004
when Nuestro Mundo, Inc was granted a charter to start Nuestro Mundo Community
School. The first group of DLI students from NMCS are entering high school in fall 2013.
A new superintendent and school board presents an opportunity to further promote the
success of DLI in addressing the achievement gap - when it is fully implemented.
